Frequently Asked Questions:

What is a Union?

A union consists of the employees at a facility who come together to form their own organization. The employees elect officers, contract negotiation teams and grievance committees from among themselves.

The organization then becomes the VOICE of the employees with all decisions concerning contracts, grievances and professional issues made by the members of the organization at their own facility.

Why Do You Need Collective Bargaining?

  • Are the staffing levels at your facility good?

  • If you are disciplined or unfairly evaluated, do you have resources to an outside neutral hearing with a binding decision?

  • Are new employees brought in at the same or higher rate of pay as you after years of service?

  • Do you have any say when your facility is reengineered or redesigned?

  • Does senority count at your facility?

Organizing with UNOP gives you power and leverage to change things. Staffing levels, benefits, wages and working conditions are all negotiable issues and are determined by you and your co-workers.
